The Seychelles – The Journey

When to go to the Seychelles?

Famous for its beautiful beaches framed by rocks and luxuriant vegetation, the Seychelles archipelago is a tourist dream. Many of them come to discover it. It must be said that the country has several tourist attractions. A catamaran cruise is one of the recommended ways to discover all the magical places of the Seychelles. Of course, if you want to enjoy the trip, you have to choose the date of your stay seriously. The following information will help you make a reasonable choice.

The climate in Seychelles

To know the right time to travel to the Seychelles, you must first know its climate in general. The goal is to find the perfect season for your favorite activities.

First of all, the Seychelles is in the southern hemisphere. The archipelago benefits from a tropical climate. It is rarely on the path of cyclones, which is a real advantage for this tourist country. This kind of natural disaster only affects the southern islands such as Farquhar, Aldebaran and Cosmolédo. In these regions, the sea currents are also strong.

Note that the Seychelles only has two major seasons. They differ in wind influences and precipitation rates.

There is the rainy season or the hot season that runs from October to April. During this season, the northwest wind is present. It’s pretty light. Temperatures are often high, as they can reach 31°C in some islands. In other words, the heat is there. Also, influenced by northwest trade winds, the atmosphere is humid. As a result, it rains a lot, especially in December and January. It should be noted, however, that the colour of the sky can change from one island to another.

The second major season is the cool or dry season, which runs from May to October. It’s the southern winter. This time, the wind comes from the southeast with quite strong gusts. The sea is often rough. The temperatures are mild, especially from July onwards. Of course, it rarely rains during the fantastic season.

It should be noted that Seychelles is one of the countries suffering from the effects of global warming. For example, the archipelago sometimes faces periods of intense rainfall that can cause severe flooding and droughts. In any case, you can visit the Seychelles all year round.

Average temperatures in Seychelles

In the Seychelles, temperatures are relatively stable, regardless of the season. They vary between 25 and 30°C. That’s why people say Seychelles is summer all year round. They are often high between October and May, especially in December, January and February.

The temperature of the water is between 26 and 29°C. It is exceptionally high in March and April, as it can reach 30°C.

It should be noted that these are approximate weather data. Temperature and precipitation vary from island to island. The same applies to the duration of sunshine. The sun is present for about 12 hours daily on islands near Ecuador.

What season do you have to visit the Seychelles?

Even though you can visit the Seychelles all year round, there are still good times for tourists to enjoy their trip. Ideally, you leave between October and May. During this time, the air is cool and dry.

Leaving during the shoulder seasons, from March to May or September to November. There are fewer tourists. Thus, the beaches are relatively deserted.

You can also enjoy beautiful sunny days and pleasant temperatures from June to August. However, you should avoid going there in December, because the rain is too abundant.

But as mentioned before, the best thing to do is to schedule the Seychelles visit according to the activity you want to do. So if you want to discover the natural heritage, the ideal time to visit the archipelago and its islands will be between January and April.

Indeed, the rain makes the vegetation greener and thriving. If the idea is to admire migratory birds, it is better to go to the Seychelles in April.

Boat cruise and scuba diving enthusiasts should leave in January or February when the ocean is calmer. Since the water is calm, you can better see the seabed.

If you like windsurfing, surfing or kitesurfing, you should plan your trip to the Seychelles between May and October. The same is true for big-game fishing fans.

What’s in his luggage?

Ready to board for the Seychelles islands? It is worth remembering that temperatures are almost constant all year round in this beautiful Indian Ocean country. They rarely drop below 20°C, even during the fantastic season.

For this reason, preference should be given to light clothing, preferably made of cotton. This material can guarantee comfort in the face of rising heat. Light sandals are also necessary. Wear proper shoes to protect your feet from moisture and injury if you plan hiking. When visiting natural parks or forests, mosquito-repellent products are required.

It is also advisable to wear a few chic clothes, as some restaurants require a dress code. You should also remember to slip warm clothes into the suitcase to avoid catching a cold when the temperature drops.

If you decide to go to the Seychelles during the rainy season, you must bring a raincoat and an umbrella. Of course, swimsuits, hats and sunglasses must also be among your belongings. To protect the skin from UV rays, you must have sun protection.

What type of trip should I choose?

The activities to do depend on the type of trip chosen. Stays combining several islands are ideal as they allow a rich discovery.
